Food/Porn.

Inspired by Gustatory Circuit, I bought Cooks Illustrated and poached some fish in olive oil. Other than needing a metric shitload of Olive Oil it went well, I think. I used Chow and The Flavor Bible to confirm that an Orange/Soysauce/Ginger sauce would be good, and gave Quinoa a try.

Turned out delightful.

So this morning, I'm working out, like a good unemployed person. I've noticed that the table tilt game is remarkably like the game from that awful Star Trek:TNG episode, but I just realized that the music for the math/hip shake game is rather porny. All righty then.

Today's plan:

Work out (check)
Kitchen cleaning
Volunteer at the Resale Boutique
Grocery shopping
Obtaining plane tickets for LA in May

New week, new post

OK, so it's been longer than that.

Our household breadmaking continues apace. We now don't buy sandwich bread. Go us! The boy mainly uses ratio and then puts stuff in. I don't know, it's good, and when it gets out of the oven, he brings me a slice with butter. I'm not going to argue or ask any questions.

The parents were up this weekend for the niece's baskeball tournament. The first time they've seen the house. Frenzy of cleaning, then calm. I think it went well, except the cats are still pissed.

Today's plan:

Make the boy some lunch. - done
Workout for an hour - done
Grocery shopping (did I always go to the store this much?)
Finish my book
Organize bookshelves to follow library of congress system (I am such a dork)
Investigate buying more bookshelves because we're running out of space
Be outside some, because it is going to be pretty again.

We were outside a little yesterday. After a rousing morning of putting up bookshelves, we went to the KC museum to help out with a Junior League thing, then snuck out early and drove to Atchison, a little town north of here. It's on the Missouri, and it's where Amelia Earhart was born. We started in an unfamiliar area of Kansas City, so we had the magic box tell us where to go.

I think the magic box was trying to lure us to the country to kill us. We start out okay, then it tells us to exit the nice big interstate highway. Fine, country roads are delightful. Then it tells us to take a left. Um.... gravel. So we take a left, and about 10 miles of gravel driving through farmland, we hit tarmac again. We felt like Ewan and Charlie.

We passed a farm with the same name as some of the milk in my fridge!

All in all, a fun little side trip, pretty houses. The boy has more pictures.

I just self-submitted for leadership in the Junior League. And I had lunch with the ladies yesterday. I'm really settling into this whole stay at home thing... ;)

I also started a war with Arabia this morning in Civ IV (with the Americans), so at least I'm not completely volvo-driving soccer mom (without kids).

Whew, I'm beat. Anyone ready for a drink?

Answer, I guess, is all of the above.

I opened up my CSA box and two things: (1) thank heavens there aren't any bananas (we're lousy with bananas here, and I'm tired of making banana bread), and (2) I have no fraking idea what to do with beets.

Tonight's dinner, bison steaks with roasted vegetables (carrots, broccoli and potatoes). Bison, carrots and potatoes all from the CSA!
